Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Smoke & Natural Ventilation Systems

Dyer Environmental Controls Ltd were privileged to supply and install smoke & natural ventilation systems for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The Alder Hey in the Park project is the first of it’s kind in Europe, built entirely in a park with a design inspired by children. The redevelopment has created a world class, patient-friendly hospital.

Dyer supplied and installed both passive smoke and natural ventilation control panels as well as mechanical smoke control systems, drives, wiring and containment. We showed our flexibility in being able to not only provide our own products, but to also liaise and interface with other external systems and provide bespoke solutions by closely engaging with all parties.

Dyer worked on 3 separate contracts on this scheme:

High Level Atrium Ventilation

Dyer assisted Crown House Technologies (CHT) in controlling the automated high level atrium roof vents for smoke ventilation.
Secondary sets of windows at high level in each curtain wall elevation were also integrated into the Dyer controls package to provide cross flow natural ventilation via incremental opening through the BMS.
The package included multiple smoke and natural ventilation control panels as well as the cabling and containment.

Lower Ground Floor Lobby

Creation of a sub level office space as an architectural design change created a problem relating to smoke ventilation. By designing a separate lobby, Dyer was then able to provide a MSVS (Mechanical Smoke Ventilation System) enabling the area to be safely ventilated in the event of a fire.

Sub Level Service Corridor

Dyer worked closely with Arkoni to provide a bespoke solution for the automation of heavy duty, fire rated hopper windows. As well as for smoke ventilation, the hopper windows were linked to the BMS to provide fresh air within the corridor. We also provided all associated wiring and controls.
